Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar packed
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or dark

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, greasing lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips, making sure they’re evenly distributed.
  5. Press Dough into Pan: Transfer the dough into the prepared baking pan, pressing it evenly into all corners.
  6. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set but still slightly soft. Check with a toothpick; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and Slice: Let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, lift them out using the parchment paper or foil and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into squares or rectangles.

Notes

  • For best results, use unsalted butter so you can control the amount of salt in the recipe.
  • If you prefer a mix of chocolates, feel free to use a combination of darksemi-sweet, or even milk chocolate chips.
  • These cookie bars can be stored at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerated for up to 1 week. They also freeze well for up to 3 months.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking if you want a firmer texture and slightly thicker bars.
